A lot of the Big Ten is pretty shit in this regard and it’s never going to be like the warm weather stadiums where college baseball has a real fanbase and can attract fans throughout the season.

But I think to attract talent you have to at least try to make it seem less low-rent, and maybe this ultimately sets them up for the necessary step of at least charging SOMETHING for admission to get some revenue coming in. Obvious issue would be that you’re then needing to convince people to pay for something that they had no interest in doing even when it was free.

Not sure if it will make a difference in the long run but they needed to show some kind of investment in the program/facilities.
