...was downright miraculous. ...and that they were effing huge (despite being called the Precision LIGHTWEIGHT GPS Receiver) The one I used in 1994-5, which an entire battery was lucky to have one:  The one we were pretty much all battery officers/senior NCOs were issued in 1996:
