Contribution limit is a lot higher, balances can be invested and accumulate tax free, and they carry over indefinitely until used.

While FSAs are single year use or lose and they don’t earn any interest.

But I thought you could only open an HSA if you had a high deductible health plan, which is pretty limiting.

I am in need of some tax help/insight...
I have an HSA, my fiancee has an FSA
My understanding is that we have to pick one route and abandon the other.

I found articles circa 2010-ish that indicated we could each keep our plans as long as the insurance part covered only the individual e.g. do not elect a family plan.

However, more recent articles seem to say that the HSA is toast if the partner has an FSA, and we both agree it's probably better for her to keep her plan due to cost and a potential hit on a pre-existing condition.

Any of you had to navigate this? What were your solutions?
