If you go to the Tower, definitely do a beefeater tour.
They used to be free with admission, and you will get a lot more out of it with the guide telling you all the stories about the place. It’s still worth doing on your own, but the guided tour makes it way better. (Did a self guided my first time in London then a tour the second time.) If it’s your thing, be sure to go into the central building (the white tower?) which has a really great collection of medieval and early modern weapons and armor, including at least one set of Henry VIII’s plate mail. If you like modern art, the Tate. If you like any other art, the national gallery. The Imperial War Museum is great if you like military history. I’ve hear Churchill’s war-rooms are excellent but have never been. St. Paul’s is an amazing architectural achievement and has Nelson’s tomb in the basement which is a secular shrine to rival St,Francis’s tomb in the basement of the cathedral in Assisi. There are theater shows and shopping to rival NYC, if that’s your thing. And I’ll leave it to the foodies to recommend restaurants but it’s a world class culinary city as well. You can do a day trip to Stonehenge which is amazing, or to Bath, which combines Roman and British history and culture. Previous Message
