This is just a mini version of the Vikings stadium. Maybe some obstructed views but I still think it's pretty cool, unfortunately.

e of better materials and methods of construction, etc. of course.
I just think a lot of these situations happen because of money. Constantly squeeing the design will have adverse effects. Some solutions are so dumb, I worked on a big project where one of the VE solutions was to just remove 1' of the building height. Any money that was saved on materials was now spent on increased coordination time between trades because the ceiling to deck space was now so constrained.
It would be interesting to compare the original plans of this place to what actually gets built. Despite the obstructed views, I think it looks pretty cool but probably some degree less than they originally planned.

And having been to a variety of seats in both, including middle tier back row seating, I’ve never seen or experienced any and I’ve never heard of anybody complaining about it either.

I was lucky enough to work on a number of stadium projects (including Mercedes), although just the precast part. There are so many parts and pieces that come in after the architect has designed the spaces, I think it's virtually impossible not to have them. Signage & scoreboards, unforeseen structure, vomitory walls and caps that need to expand for a variety of reasons, MEP chases, lighting, railings and fall protection, etc. Most large projects like this also usually go through rounds of VE as well.
I think the column in the Northwestern image is a good example. That's probably holding up something they probably originally planned on cantilevering or supporting via other means. It doesn't appear to be a part of the design anywhere else. I doubt they planned for a big-ass column to be dropped into the circulation like that. Overall you can still see ~80% of the field. Not terrible.
