Everybody screws up. Often in ways that are obvious even to amateurs.
I also think most of politics and a lot of international relations are perfectly amenable to amateur analysis and opinionating. First because in many cases the arguments are about values and what would be a desirable end, and that's something that doesn't really require a lot of study.
And even with more technocratic arguments about the proper diplomatic approach, it's mostly not like surgery or particle physics where you need to have studied something for years to have any clue about what's involved.
but I've watched basketball all my life, does that count for something? :D
By your logic here, you should not be allowed to criticize referees in game threads.
Or alternatively, you can think people can hold opinions and argue for and against them based off the expertise they have, and what they see and know, with the understanding that credentials aren't always a guarantee of correctness of outcome or even soundness of approach.
