I had a small library of kids' books, and a small-town local library I could walk to. But I'd also read anything my parents had lying around--that's how I ended up reading teh Amityville ####ing Horror. Lots of Reader's Digest.
We had a 1978 World Book Encyclopedia set my grandpa gave us that I would read for funsies (and manually update with death dates when a celebrity died--editing even at an early age).
Judy Blume was a big fave, obvs. Roald Dahl. Richard Scarry. Feels like I had some Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys books.
Oh and I had a big book of Bible stories I loved. Every time I read about the crucifixion, I remember thinking Jesus must've been holding on to the nails, because they wouldn't have really put nails through his wrists. That would be too cruel.
