He’s a conservative Dem, but it seems like he’s been pretty up front about his red lines and what he will and won’t support. And he’s from West Virginia, which is a really red state, so he’s a heck of a lot better than any reasonable alternative. Smart leadership would have spent the last two years trying to give him everything he wanted and bent over backwards to make him look as good as possible to his constituents.
Sinema, on the other hand, seems like a compass less publicity hound who defines her “moderate” positions on a moving scale according to how often she bucks Democratic leaders regardless of what they want.
But still, with a 50-50 Senate leadership should have also sucked it up and tried to orchestrate things to make her the star of her own reality show in her head, giving plenty of chances for high profile grandstanding on votes that didn’t really matter in order to buy her votes on things that counted.
