my old building was a historic apartment building on a historic boulevard. Archived Message

there is a picture of it from 100 years ago that showed stone on the balcony (instead of the black wrought iron we had) and we were hounded about it constantly from the historic preservation society president. Eventually, we said we'd redo it if he raised the money, and, well, he did. Previous Message They do a mediocre to OK job of enforcing historic standards and an A+ job of fearmongering and nannying There are a few other neighborhoods with upper class residents that are great candidates but the residents do not want to impose controls on themselves Previous Message In my experience, they are predictable, stable, and appreciate the most value. Previous Message lots of affordable starter homes and decent walkability/access to commercial (except we didn't do sidewalks for 30 years). Neighborhood conservation (not preservation) is an interesting topic, we did that in the older neighborhoods where we require alley access and tinkered with bulk standards a bit to drive off grossly out of character development, but we don't regulate architectural style unless you're unlucky enough to live in a local historic district
