If it's a new oven, it's just the insulation or oil that is burning off, and that's normal. Archived Message

If it's an old oven it is most likely electrical wiring melting and you should call service

Moved into a new apartment, turned on the oven to 400 degrees and it set off the fire detector due to the smell of burning plastic/rubber. Pulled the thing out from the wall, to look behind but didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Put in a maintenance request and they came by yesterday and “fixed” it.

Turned on the oven again to 400 degrees, same situation. Burning plastic/rubber smell and fire detector going off. It even sounded off 5-7 minutes after I turned off the oven.

I assume the next step is burning down the office of my apartment’s managing group as retaliation?
