LBK and I are actively considering a lake cabin Up North
w vrbo and such I canít see myself ever having the conversation
thats why the 1/4 share I mentiioned below was so attractive
That's another facet of it that I don't miss.*
This thread now reminded me of synchronicity 2 by the Police.
This thread now reminded me of Scrantonicity 2
My sister and her hubby just closed on a cabin in MInnesota.
Grandparents had a place on a lake up in Eagle River back when my family lived in Illinois.
On a related note, I found an orange and blue boat for sale. Gel coat needs some work.
When you need a trans am for the water*
2000s wakeboard boats were seemingly marketed to teens with ADHD.
2000's Air Nautique? Could be a very nice boat.
Found an earlier listing photo from prior to this dude buying it.
It would probably clean up pretty nice.
Yeah, 2006 SV-211.
Florida boat (by the registration number).....I assume all of them have been in salt water.
I'll rent it!*
yeah, they could probably rent it just to Deucers and do just fine*
I would think so*
If you guys enjoy going up there in the winter too, then it makes too much sense, do it*
I would love a lake house in WI or MI... the only problem would be forcing myself to come home
5.5 hours each way? Sounds miserable
When we were told the taxes, we literally broke into laughter *
not to mention in an even less desirable climate.*
Climate change will make it more desirable *
unless the change is less desirable for most, including the resale market!*
You obviously read none of my wife's weather related posts*
but weíre talking about a second house, not an occasional weekend getaway..
Yeah, you definitely haven't read those posts.
Go for it. And make sure there's no internet or cell service available
Second homes are pretty awesome and lake homes are pretty much the tits.
I donít understand someone living in Chicago & trudging through 7 months of shit weather...
I mean, I wouldn't leave every weekend. But I'm sure you're not here every weekend in
With wedding age over, I will spend every weekend this summer in Chicago but one.
I love Chicago summers. But we spent at least 3 weekends out of town this summer
Minnesotans ####ing love their cabins up north*
so do Canadians*
that might be the understatement of the century*
We'd head up there in winter too.
Full disclosure: Iím the ying to your yang here.
but part of it's being isolated in the woods with a lake, it's very calming*
The calming thing is whatís not for me. I donít do relaxing vacations.
good for you :), it's what I need though*
Yeah, I get that people like lake houses and Iím out of step with the norm.*
i think itís great for some people
I like the fact that it takes me the whole summer to fix the winter damage
I had you pegged as someone who would go to the same places
I like to go to the same places because I know how they suit our unique needs
Do you actually check to see if the baseboards and behind the dresser is clean?*
I totally get *not caring* about such things. I don't understand *not noticing*
The baseboards are obvious. Behind the dresser only happens if something gets dropped behind it*
We have thought the same thing, but in Northern LP of MI. However, our main issues....
We used to want to get a lake cabin but south where it would be warmer
thought about this as well, but we were looking at a 1/4 share deal in michigan
Yep, know that place well. We have some of the same reservations.
When you get way up north in the lower peninsula, there are so many huge inland lakes.
Frankfort is really close, maybe a 15-20 min drive*
Yep. I am very aware of that.
too far IMO (and I have a 4-hour roundtrip commute) *
The fact I no longer have to drive for work makes it MUCH more attractive
is it mostly 4-lane or 2-lane highway? *
Mostly 4....2 lane for the last 30 miles or so.*
Have you decided to be DINKs for life?
who knows maybe the TikiDazzles are pulling in $500k/yr*
Still wouldnít be rich per the deuce*
per 1998, mostly*
Iíd go so far as to say if you are even thinking about having kids, donít do this.
DINKs for Life is a good band name*
no, it's not *
How about Princsukz?
Be it a thousamd mles away, Iíll never give up the cabin in New Hampshire.*
5.5 hours seems way, way too far to do this. But thatís just me.
Agreed. 5.5 hours is a huge endeavor to regulary drive it.
There is North Woods south of the North Woods. It's just not the same.*
(Itís probably pretty much the same)*
Oops. I meant there is NOT North Woods south of the North Woods.*
Good point; how far away is this version of "up North"??
Disagree. To me, the area north of Grand Rapids qualifies as North Woods....
I'm only speaking to Up North Wisconsin. You can keep your Michigan up north. :)*
5 hours from Chicago*
Well, as long as you have summer hours at work...
I'll also only consent if it's Michigan rather than Wisconsin*
c yu @ the southerner sunday morning*
Woah: You're actually right. You going to be there?*
I am not actually going out to breakfast there on Sunday, but yeah, I will be up*
It seems you are a product of where you went as a kid.
Kind of funny, I spent summers in WI when I lived overseas.
For me, northern Wisconsin seems more rustic and SW Michigan seems more beach-y
and the UP is pretty much the same as Wisconsin, but the beaches are better on the MI side*
Agreed, but further north is rustic and beach-y
Yeah, but then you're getting into long drives, too*
Not really, Montague is 3:21 from Chicago. Manistee is 4:40*
"4 hours and 40 minutes is nothing compared to 5 hours! " *
Let me clarify. I said earlier my ideal is the first one (Montague), and that's 2:10 less
My grandpa on one side had a place on lake delavan but we never really went.
Which lake on Lauderdale? I love it up there. My friend's place is in Stewarts Bay on Middle Lake.*
Middle, right by the Landing. I got way too spoiled by my lake in michigan.
We usually boat on over to those sand bars, I believe that are on Green Lake to hang out.
We know several folks that have cabins near Minocqua and Liz has family that spend the summers there
Sounds fun, but look at cost of ownership versus just VRBOing every time you want to go*
What a terrible idea*
Crazy how all those muscles connect to each other...
Crazy how all those muscles connect to each other...
Funny you say that......
*fgs* Yeah, at our age stretching is pretty much mandatory now.
Thumbs up! Now - about the cabin...
This sounds weird, but the trip seems to go quicker the more I make it.
You're just tired of ducking through doorways. *
We've kicked around this idea as well. Distance is a pain*
in my experience, 3 hours is about the outer edge of the break point
I'm about 2:30 from ours. It's a fine distance*
Do it. *
By making that investment are you going to feel obligated to drive up there all the time?
That is the question we're facing.*
to me, thats too far. never know what the future bring and will you at some point wish you had a
I love the Northwoods, but Michigan is better for a getaway home. Closer, better towns, Lake Mich.*
and way more expensive*
People from south suburbs go to Sisters Lakes, people from north suburbs to go to Lake Geneva area.*
Sister Lakes. :-)
Going to Lake Geneva Sunday!!1!* ==>
We are Wisconsin people.*
If you can airbnb it, why not?*
I don't know why you wouldn't. It's beautiful up there, you guys go up there a lot and
It would certainly mean a few less trips to other places throughout the year.
For me, 5.5 hours is too far for regular usage. Somewhere near Fond Du Lac, Wisc is good for me
You mean, like, Canada?
is this like a time share?*
No. It's a SFH.*
Questions: Is your current housing situation your forever home?
No intentions of leaving our current home, yes VRBO, we have the cash to put down well over the
Dave Ramsey is not impressed!*
if it rents and pays for itself, who cares how much you go?*
The logistics on renting it out seem tough.*
i am not familiar with the area(s). Valid*
And from knowing some folks who have vacation rentals, even with an agency it's a PITA.
It's also not something we really want to do, but would be nice to have the option*
i have three kids and no money. why can't I have no kids and three money?*
On the plus side, you won't die alone.
How often are you up there now?*
If youíll use it and have the money, no mistake
perfect place for the next Deuce summer retreat*
0%, I have a beach house in SC
We love our lake hovel. Nothing has broken yet. It's closer so useable on weekends though*
And now I have a boat lift! I just need a boat*
If you'll use it regularly, what's the downside?*
5.5 hours from Chicago - hard to do for only a weekend.*
oh. Yeah, I didn't realize it was that far north.*
That's what remote Fridays are made for*
Totally. Speaking with my boss about that tomorrow.*
You and Walkon can be neighbors!*
As much as you two kids are up there, why the hell not?
Sure they are, they would like to use it.
I don't like the wording inside. It should be how great of an idea is this!*
I felt like I've been the positive Pete about this since we saw it.*
everyone loves someone with a lakehouse*
