The Atkins Group Gifts Stone Creek Golf Club to Illinois Athletics
Someone below was asking about maintenance costs
So doing the math assuming $900k,
I see they mention $556k in n central US, which makes it 49 rounds per day*
According to WCIA they intend to make it a championship level course,
Plant a lot of trees yesterday.*
Listening to Small on Werner's show, hosting events didn't sound like a priority
how are the private clubs in town?
Very nice but way too short
It's been a while, but we used to belong at Lincolnshire CC and have played Urbana CC a few times
Champaign Country Club is really nice, but could never host a NCAA event
Played Urbana once when I was in school. Definitely not a championship caliber facility or layout.
Probably not, back tees are 6500 distance-now owned by Shad Khan though.*
I think I know the pro there. *
Gotta be able to play shots on the course.
Meh, I liked it the way it was. *
That's a pretty generic term
What does it play to now? Can it be extended to 7200-7300?*
They seem to be talking about adding 500 yards.
So, I've never played there... it was built after I left, but...
they have large unplatted fields next to some of the fairways
Back tees are listed @ 7118, so it's a little longer than I thought
Just curious: what's the most challenging course out there that was designed 2 B golf/residential?
Dunno, PGA tour doesn't play many courses like that
Seems odd to me that they could just find an extra 500 yards. :-)
EDIT: man, if Google Maps is up to date, there is a spitload of completely undeveloped land bordering the course. I wasn't aware of that. Seems like with some re-zoning, redesign, etc. you might easily find an extra few yards. But that's up to Pete Dye and his type. :-)

Does Crooked Stick count?
Didn't they just play 2 in a row between Harbour Town and River Highlands?
Yeah, River Highlands would seem to be one
Well, good point. Hard to tell how Harbour Town, etc was developed back in the 60's....
Awesome. Call Hanse, Doak, or Coore Crenshaw. Please*
Great tax write off for a failing business.*
Giant I podium!
I don't need a podium for anything. But I need that. Somebody steal it for me, please.*
Looks Photoshopped. And.... is there social distancing on the left side of the pic?
I’m glad they saved the course....really fun to play*
So, if you live there already: good news or bad news?
I mean, if I was the developer I'd take the ring road and push duplex/townhome development.
Stone Creek wasn't private
yea, I am curious if homeowners had to pay an HOA fee/buy into the golf property?
Guessing they didn’t have to buy in, unsure if they have a HOA fee for the course
"We've decided to give this gigantic liability to the university of illinois"
And get a tax write off in the process*
these big companies, they write off everything
you don't even know what a write-off is*
no, i don't*
but they do, and they're the ones writing it off
i grew up with all the Atkins kids....
Were you a Champaignian or an Urbanaite?
Monticello. born in 1965 *
Did you stumble out?*
stone creek homeowners can now go take the for sale signs out of their yards*
Wow, this is really great.
And had Itch Jones blow through us and give us life goals for 30 years from now.*
Absolutely. Dude was the happiest man alive.... all by himself playing golf.*
3 months ago, they were talking about it being plowed under for redevelopment.
"great for the school" seems really ambitious, they're taking on a huge liability
Revenue will still pay for the maintenance. Gives the program an upgraded facility with which...
Closing the O&B would also shift some traffic to stone creek*
the whole development went bankrupt to the point they decided to write it all off
TTMLI5: How is it a huge liability? Maintenance?*
well for starters the golf course is going to bleed money.
isn't golf still a dying sport in terms of rounds played and such?
the events business is where all the money would be*
i am curious if there's been a rebound this year?
20 years from now they'll be called the Keto Group*
Either way, the legacy they've managed to carb out is impressive.*
I appreciate the pun thread, but I'm not sure there's a lot of meat on this bone*
While this sub thread paleos before some others, I think there’s plenty to chew on*
i think everyone should take their pun thread efforts to South Beach
vegan keep this going...*
