Baseball cards, anyone into them? I am ready to get a couple graded to sell

I have a crap ton of cards from my youth, the intent was to give them all to my son(s) well I had 2 daughters and they don't care at all about them. I have over 50,000 cards but since most are from the 80's/90's they aren't worth much. However I was able to get a couple Mickey Mantles many years ago. A 1956 and a 1961 that I will be able to sell for a nice chunk of change I just need to get them graded. I scares me to mail them off to PSA for grading sounds like it takes a couple months to get them back. Anyone have any experience in getting cards graded?

PSA counter inside a local shop here in the Atlanta suburbs. I was nervous too sending in the mail, so I dropped off there. I had a Gretzky and Bird/Magic rookies that my dad bought back in the 90s. Should be getting them back next week. Hopefully they send the grades in the next few days.

That is my plan. We have a shop here in town I am going to take them over next week

to have mailed off. Never done it before a bit anxious as well to mail a couple thousand dollars worth of cards off yes I know they will be insured but still lol

1.wipe the cards down with a soft cloth to remove any fingerprints or loose dirt. PSA won't do that and you could get marked down a grade for surface smudges that can easily be removed.
2. Transfer the cards into these - they're preferred by PSA https://a.co/d/0dPfzfxH

I think you're going the right route by finding a shop to send them through. Otherwise, there are shows where PSA will be there to collect submissions.

PSA I think is pretty widely known as the best for resale value. But if you look around enough you can find enough good or bad about just about every service.

Yeah it feels like PSA is best for resale and for vintage especially

Do you have a local card shop? They can sometimes look them over and a couple near me even will send them in for you (I'm assuming this expedites it or adds another layer of protection). Might also take them to a larger card show where PSA and other graders take them in person.

My understanding is that the grading process is something of a pain in the butt now that everyone wants to send every Shohei, Mahomes, or Wemby that they pull in for grading. So it takes a lot longer and the graders have too much junk on their hands now so it's no longer as precise as it used to be. It really wasn't even meant for modern cards but as a way to distinguish the quality of old stuff but hobby's gonna hobby.

which makes me feel better about it. I am going to head there probably next week to have them take a look. Probably will just send off the Mantles but might a couple others just because and potentially keep them.

5 months to come back. Download the app for PSA while you’re at it. And you’ll need to ball park insurance on them as part of cost.
