Disruptions often happen because we’re tired of the status quo.
We grew tired of manual labor, so we invented machines.
We grew tired of inefficient power methods, so we generated electricity (which also extended our days beyond sunset)
We grew tired of collaborating in pods, so we invented the internet and wireless.
When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone in the mid 2000s he said he was reinventing the phone by combining the iPod, phone, and internet connection.
I think we’ve grown weary of the smartphone. Innovation has stagnated. We seem to use our smartphones less and less for voice communication and entertainment. There are better ways to experience entertainment and IM/text is a more efficient means of communication in most circumstances. And the downsides of smartphones are becoming more apparent.
So what is the next iteration of the smartphone? We’ll still want instant communication and access to the internet (preferably with generative AI that seeks answers to questions beyond simple Google searches. Perhaps some means of a hologram experience where we can virtually be in meetings with coworkers from across the globe, view sporting events or concerts like we’re actually there, tour houses we are considering buying, visit beaches we may want to visit on vacation, etc. kind of a hologram/VR experience on steroids?
If this happens, it will happen after I’m dead
Next generation smartphone will just be an embedded chip.
Stage after that will be the floating chaise lounges from Wall-E.

You think we’re going from black rectangles straight to brain implants? *

I have schweppervessence and wessonality. Too sweet to be sour, too nice to be mean.
