Major League Baseball has made its cap proposal:
2027 cap: $245.3 million
Floor: $171.2 million

A 50-50 split in revenues

that only 12 of 30 teams are currently exceeding. (Edit: file was sorted weird, 15 of 30 are above it now).

How can any of the owners justify that they can’t spend more when 2/3 of the league hasn’t even been spending to the level that would hit their proposed cap floor? Feels like that provides a ton of leverage to the players union in being able to highlight just how much players have been getting underpaid for years/decades due to how many owners are crying poor.

But the ceiling is way too low. Which must mean the owners would rather have a low ceiling even if it requires a high floor. This would be a $77M increase in payroll just to get to the floor for the Cardinals.
