You have to try pretty hard to fuck up something to this level. Very impressive.

Wasn't a terrible experience at Barcelona this afternoon.

Depending on flight and passport, they had some self register at the kiosk and then use the e-gates.

Others were seen by an officer and registered there and cleared to enter.

Even after waiting for a checked bag, deplane -> taxi in <60 minutes.

I’ll report back next Saturday after our experience in lisbon*

ETIAS will start operations in the last quarter of 2026.
No action is required from travellers at this point.
The European Union will inform about the specific date for the start of ETIAS several months prior to its launch.

We're going to the Netherlands, Croatia, and Bosnia in a couple of weeks. Seems like it's currently business as usual to go there (i.e., not electronic travel authorization required)?

We had to go through the process when entering in Athens. They then made us do it again on the way

out of Athens. We did connect through Belgrade on the way to Split, so I’m guessing that’s why.

However, my problem is that the face scan/fingerprint machines accomplish nothing. Instead of letting you then pass through an auto checkpoint and be on your way, they just tell you to go to the regular passport clearance line. Even those who came to Split from within Schengen had the same experience.

I’m sure it will be better eventually, but right now it is Microsoft release beta test worthy.
