Granted it’s early career KD before his peak, but you’ve got 3 lower tier hall of famers at their peak around the perimeter, and then two all star caliber front court players. This team would win 70 games and take the title 9 out of 10 years.

I think the algorithm is killing this team due to lack of rebounding, but I’d take my chances with this 5. (Looking at it, this is actually a decent NBA analogue to our 2005 squad. Equating KD to Powell is a bit of a stretch, but not outrageous, especially early KD before he was dominant.)

I wonder if there’s some randomness with the final record once you have the team. Because this is fairly close to being an absolutely optimal team, stats-wise. Yeah, there are a few options that could be a bit better than Roy or LJ, but they are both really good.

and a range of outcomes and total scores. I think there is more to the algorithm than just the numbers--some all-time players with identical stats seem to give your a team an historic bump or whatever it is more than others.
