Within a 15 minute drive on country roads, a renewable energy storage project is under construction.
Solar panels are very common to see in this area. This storage facility when completed later this year is supposed to have enough capacity to power 80k-100k homes for up to 18 hours.
Most all dairy farms in the area have their open air cattle barns roofed with solar. These are not small farms, I'm speaking 1000+ head and robotic / automated milking machines.
Parking lots are often covered with solar are as homes and office buildings.
We haven't had a blackout in years except when a transformer had blown somewhere or someone took out a power pole on some back road.
Some areas have had their power cut under high wind conditions for obvious reasons. Most of the power lines in this area are underground however major transmission lines are still overhead.
