Rags and old paper stuffed into walls behind plaster, glass standoffs with wires for electricity and no insulation, only a furnace in the basement that burnt coal, fireplace that ran up the exterior walls and had to be continuously repaired because it was held together with only mortar, clay pipes that constantly were broken, septic tank built with rocks, lead pipes, and a wood stove in the kitchen that had burner plates, and oven, and a water heater all combined.
I'm glad we don't still build homes the same way
