I remember at one point somewhere along the line I only qualified for a variable rate. Whoosh that was bad. Fortunately I was able to refi after about a year. I believe that was back in the 80s when I moved to Fremont. I had had 2 fixed rate mortgages previously so I think they just saw me coming and I didn't shop around enough. The maximum rate i was hit was in the 15 percent range.
