Outgoing Congressman Madison Cawthorn was hit with a fine of $14,000 as he prepares to leave office over improperly promoting a cryptocurrency that he has a considerable investment in but failed to disclose his ties. Cawthorn is actually getting off easy, as this could have been charged as a federal crime (and still might be) for insider promotion and enrichment.
