Illycaffè will participate in the second edition of the World Forum of Coffee Producers, to be held on July 10 and 11, 2019, in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo. The Italian roaster will be represented by Anna Illy, who will be part of the panel "The market as an instrument to protect producers' income," the first of the event, scheduled to take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on day 10.
Illycaffè's director will be alongside José Sette, Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization, Roberto Velez, National Manager of the Colombian National Coffee Growers Federation, and Chad Trewick, founder of Reciprocafe LLC and responsible for The Coffee Transaction Guide, at the panel that will be moderated by José Marcos Rafael, Chief Executive Officer of Minasul. The discussion will revolve around the following questions:
· Physical Market - is it possible to disarm the trap created for commodities?
· Do current market mechanisms protect or harm producers' incomes?
· Are currency futures contracts, especially "C" contracts, the right mechanisms for price discovery? Do they reflect the real market or are they distorted by factors other than coffee?
· If it is not contract "C", what alternative?
In addition to the economic sustainability of producers, crop levels, price volatility in international markets, increased demand for the coming years and climatic adversities will be the focus of the Forum, co-promoted by BSCA (Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association ), Minasul and CNC (National Coffee Council). International personalities from the coffee world are among the panelists and speakers, most notably American professor Jeffrey Sachs, who will give the keynote address.
