CoffeeNetwork (New York) Ė According to the latest survey from Safras & Mercado, Brazilís 2019-2020 coffee harvest is 93% completed. This is more advanced than last year, when 88% of the harvest was completed by this time, and more advanced than the five-year average of 84% harvested.
Based on the firmís estimate of 58.9 million bags of total production, this would indicate that 54.95 million bags have been collected thus far.
According to the report, there is only sweeping left to be done ďbut some producers are giving up on that saying labor costs are high and will not pay off considering current coffee prices," said Gil Barabach, analyst at Safras & Mercado.
Producers have also been complaining about quality of the crop caused by erratic weather during the flowering season last year.
IBGE has reduced their production estimates to a total of 52.1 mm bags (36.75/15.35).
