– Net drying occurred in most
coffee production areas in Brazil Thursday and similar conditions will last through the
weekend and into the middle part of next week. The need for moisture will steadily rise
during this period of time. The exception will be in Bahia where some welcome rain is
expected. A change will occur late next week and into the following weekend at which time rain is expected to return to Cerrado Mineiro, Zona de Mata and Sul de Minas. Areas farther to the south may continue dry biased through January 5.
Satellite and surface weather observations suggested erratic showers and
thunderstorms occurred in Cerrado Mineiro and in a few random locations near the Sao
Paulo/Sul de Minas and Rio de Janeiro borders. Most of the official reported rainfall through
0600 GMT today was not significant in key crop areas and net drying occurred once again.
