Brazilian production in 2020 reached 69.5 million bags of 60 kg, estimated on Monday by the consultancy Safras & Mercado, revising upward the total production, which in the previous estimate had been projected at 68.1 million bags.
Safras data were released almost simultaneously with the forecast of the National Supply Company (Conab), which historically has volumes below those seen by the market for the coffee harvest. According to figures from the state-owned company, Brazil produced a record 63.08 million 60 kg bags in 2020.
Safras' projection, carried out with cooperatives, producers, exporters, traders, warehouses, pointed to a larger Arabica crop than previously expected, as well as Conab.
The arabica crop, which represents the majority of Brazilian production, was revised upwards from 48.2 million to 50.1 million bags, while the production of conilon (robust) was revised down from 19.9 million to 19 , 4 million bags.
With the new figures, the consultancy estimates an increase in total production in Brazil of 16.4% compared to last season, which had been the year of low bienniality of Arabica.
