(Bloomberg) -- Production may drop to 53.6m bags from 68.8m bags in 2020-21 as trees recovering from the previous bumper harvest faced adverse weather in the 2H of 2020, Prata Pereira, a trading company in Varginha in the South of Minas Gerais, said in a report.
• Arabica-coffee output may plunge 36% to 32.4m bags
o The off- cycle crop faced a lack of rain in 2H in south of Minas Gerais, Cerrado and Mogiana
• Robusta-coffee production may rise to 21.2m bags from 18.5m bags
o Robusta trees benefited from less stress after a smaller crop last year, more regular rain and widespread irrigation
• Prata Pereira visited farms in the main producing regions from Nov. 30 to Jan. 11; in 2020, the trading company handled 1.5m bags, including 1m bags for export
• NOTE: A bag weighs 60 kgs, or 132 lbs
