It’s been two long days of travel by car but now in Varginha. My observations:
In higher altitude areas of farms observed, there has not been additional excessive fruit drop and cherries spliced open show good bean development. Rains helped to stabilize the situation for 2021/22 and it was confirmed in discussions with others. However, at the same time, the rains did not improve the outlook either. When viewing the vegetative growth, back in December it was behind and no amount of rain was going to change that. There is between a 30% to 40% observed reduction in growth of new nodes. That will prevent the 2022/23 crop from making a strong rebound. The market can’t bank on a rush of heavy supplies after stocks are depleted in 2021/22. To me that is the most bullish aspect of the situation and comes at a time of demand recovery.
