In the past, coffee areas were more important in the south of the country (Parana I believe). Since it can get colder there, frost impact was usually more significant.
As a result, growing areas increased in Minas Gérais where frost occur less often, but can still occur (1994 and 1997 I believe).
There is still regularly some frost occurrences in these regions, but lately it only affected small areas and did not have any significant impact. The last frost in Sul de Minas occurred in 2019, impacting the 20/21 crop, which was still record by far…
Significant frost still occurs regularly in Parana, but since it only produces about 1 mln bags these days, it’s not that relevant.
