Provinces in northern Vietnam from Ha Giang to Ha Tinh are planning to evacuate more than 766,000 residents ahead of Tropical Storm Conson whose landfall is forecast for Monday, the government website reports, citing information the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
NOTE: Central Highlands, Vietnam’s key coffee producing region, is not expected to be in storm’s expected path, said Dang Van Chien, director of Dak Lak Province’s weather office. Region is forecast to receive some rain in afternoons and evenings for rest of this week
Conson, known locally as the fifth storm, headed to the South China Sea on Wednesday and is expected to stay on its path to Vietnam’s northern coast in next 2-3 days with winds gusting up to 120km/hour near its center
