According to the Specialty Coffee Association of America, a single pound of coffee is enough for 48 6-oz cups of coffee. I think most of us are accustomed to drinking 12oz per serving so 1lb will result in 24, 12 oz cups. For ease of comparison 2 oz of coffee will give you 3 twelve oz. cups. In 76/77 it took an 8 fold increase in prices to cut consumption 10 mln bags.

I think we can agree that today’s consumer swallows price increases a lot easier than the consumer of the 70’s. To put things in perspective $13,570 was the average household income in 1977 today that number is $79,700. Yet you can still purchase a pound of coffee for almost the same price as 50 years ago. Coffee is an absolute bargain compared to any other food item.

Looks to me it will be quite difficult to cut consumption in the developed countries.
