(Bloomberg) -- Some coffee and sugar-cane crops in Parana’s northern, Mato Grosso do Sul and Sao Paulo’s south may get frost next weekend as a cold air mass front advances through the Center-South region, according to Marco Antonio dos Santos, a partner and meteorologist at Brazil’s Rural Clima.
The frost risk is seen as low so far because cloudy weather may hamper the cold front advance, Santos says in message
The frost is unlikely to be intense and ample, says Nadiara Pereira, a meteorologist at Climatempo
On Aug. 20, temperatures could reach as low as 3 degrees Celsius (37 Fahrenheit) in coffee producing cities in Parana’s north, she says by message
The phenomenon may also hurt wheat crops that are flowering in Parana and Rio Grande do Sul
Before the sharp temperatures decline, heavy rain are expected today and Thursday, potentially hampering Parana’s winter-corn harvest
