(Dow Jones) -- SÃO PAULO--Brazilian coffee exports were up in September as more of the arabica variety of beans became available from the 2022 harvest, according to exporters group Cecafe.
The South American country exported 3.4 million 132-pound bags of coffee last month, an increase of 4.5% from the same month a year earlier, Cecafe said Tuesday. Sales abroad of the arabica variety rose 18% to 2.9 million bags, while exports of robusta beans plunged 62.2% to 147,323 bags.
Sales of arabica beans jumped with the inflow of new supplies from this year's harvest, while strong demand for robusta beans from Brazilian roasters and other buyers reduced supplies of that variety for sales to other countries, Cecafe President Gunter Hausler said.
Exports of ground, roast and soluble coffee dropped 15.3% to 312,627 bags, Cecafe said.
