For a long time I have hypothesised that the Bartlett "story" as promulgated through twenty or more American sites was not as suggested. The circular references suggested as much. I was not welcomed with open arms by a section of this community!
With DNA evidence I can say quite conclusively that the Bartletts who descended from Adam de Bartelot, who arrived with the Normans into Sussex, are totally unrelated to those from Plymstock and the surrounding area.
The "Book of Bartletts" did much to encourage the American view. It also can now be shown to be too closed minded.
I would love to see further West Devon Bartlett's yDNA analysed to put this to bed once and for all.
