If you're main interest is in researching your patriline (the line which usually corresponds with the inheritance of surnames) then you would be best taking a Y-chromosome DNA test. The mtDNA test follows the matriline (the all-female line) but this test is not particularly useful for genealogy so it's not a good choice for beginners. The Family Finder test gives you matches with genetic cousins on all your family lines but is best used for finding connections in the last five or six generations. This test could potentially give you matches with both male and female Jackman descendants.
