If you’re thinking about whether DNA testing is worthwhile, then I’d say definitely yes. I’ve worked hard on my family history but we all have brick walls and I’m beginning to break those down now with various clues and great contacts from my DNA matches. It doesn’t replace good paper research but it’s a brilliant extra tool in our kit? It’s certainly helped my tree to collaborate with others and I’m learning something new about my family lines all the time. For me, there are only two minor ‘cons’. Firstly, some people who take a DNA test haven’t done any research at all so they won’t be such a useful ‘match’ to you but, who knows, it might pique their interest and they start researching later? Secondly, you don’t have to be a DNA expert at all but the more you work on those ‘DNA-for-dummies’ type lessons and links, the more you’ll get out of it?
