FTDNA Test Kit

Posted by Roger Donne on 20/11/2019, 12:02:10

Having been tempted by the latest Y-DNA test offers from FTDNA, I now have the kit but I am wondering on the safest way to return the samples. FTDNA seem to offer limited advice on international return postage and I was wondering what has been the experience of customers in the UK who have used their testing service.

Hi Roger

You will need to take the package to the post office and you will probably need to fill out a green customs form. When describing the contents of your package you should describe it as a "genealogy kit". You might want to pay a little bit extra for the international signed for delivery service which allows you to track the path of your package. There have been a few problems with the local post office in Houston, Texas so that would also ensure that your kit gets through the system a bit quicker. If you have documented ancestry from Devon do apply to join our Devon DNA Project.

Thanks, Debbie, I will do as you suggest. You have already let me into the Devon project with my autosomal DNA results from Ancestry. However I am a bit of a mongrel and I'm afraid my surname line comes from the other side of the border in Cornwall!

Sorry Roger. It's difficult to keep track of all the names. I look forward to getting your Y-DNA results in due course.
