I wouldn't set too much store by the fact that the entirely tame CP of Belarus currently cheerleads for Lukashenko. The Iraqi CP in the 1970s supported the Ba'athist regime up to - and beyond - the point where that regime started repressing and executing the CP's cadres. In the early 1980s the Tudeh Party of Iran tried desperately to convince us all that the 'Imam's line' in Iran was worthy of support - right up to the point when the Tudeh's battered and bloodied leader Kianouri appeared on Iranian TV to make a forced statement renouncing communism...
