I believe it was first publicised in the West by the late Nina Andreyeva when she spoke at the PTB's May Day Festival in 1992. If my memory serves me well this is how it goes: When the kulaks were liquidated as a class in the Soviet Union they were sent to the cities to work. There many of them soon wormed their way into the bureaucracy and the Party apparatus. Some simply to carve out future careers but others, still loyal to the illegal Kulak party (apparently not the NTS) set up an illegal counter-revolutionary movement within the the Bolshevik party. Khrushchov and Brezhnev were not, of course, members of this group. Khrushchov was a revisionist while Brezhnev, after initially considering return to Stalin's road, opted to more or less administer what Khrushchov had set up. They created the conditions for the real traitors, led by Gorbachov, to come to power... Her speech was published in the New Worker at the time and may be available on line. It may also be on the Revolutionary Democracy website though its editor Vijay Singh is not a fan of Nina Andreyeva. This theory is widely known but not accepted by other Russian communists (CPRF & RCWP) who say it's "simplistic" and point out that while the NTS clearly did exist and enjoy the funding of the CIA throughout the Cold War little or no concrete evidence of the survival of a secret kulak front faction within the CPSU has been produced. Having said that there is a mass of material that's been published in Russia since 1990 that has still to reach an international audience (Kaganovich's autobiography published for his friends and relatives immediately springs to mind). pip, pip, H A R Philby (Col.ret'd)
