the manager of the CPGB bookshop in
Longsight Manchester in the early
1980s.
We supplied a wide range of books, papers and merchandise.
We did not have a lot of retail
customers, but relied on the postal
trade, way before the internet.
We sold Marx and Engels classics, Soviet Weekly and Novosti Press Moscow
pamphlets.
We sold "Comment"an internal Party journal, and Marxism Today a glossy revisionist journal.
I remember selling bulk copies of The
Ragged Trousered Philanthropist to
the construction workers Union,
UCATT.
We had regular visits from Ruth and
Eddie Frow to purchase the latest
collective works from Marx and Engels.
Our supplier for much of our books
was Lawrence and Wishart, owned by
the Party, in London.
We relied on Party Branches and comrades for much of our trade
A Marxist Leninist and scientific
perspective in the Labour and trade
union movement and society is badly needed today,
to counter idealism and bourgeois propaganda.
