Thanks again Beth for the ongoing digging into the archives I think we can say it is without a doubt the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara. To me it is very clear that it is set with pearls. But it is great to have it confirmed now that it was worn without the upright pearls.
Also, with this new angle and the up close image we can see what the Queen in fact worn around her neck for this event. In addition to her long diamond sautoir already mentioned by Beth in the RJWMB discussion it looks like she also wore the pearl and diamond lattice choker which was a wedding present from the City of London.
IN 2016 on the RJWMB Kongetro posted this image which led to considerable discussion about the tiara worn by Queen Mary. http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/thread/1468778075.html

Kongetro found other images (see RJWMB link) which led to the conclusion that Queen Mary wore the Lovers Knot tiara, although I am left with the impression that not everyone's queries/impressions were solved.
Since that discussion I found a series of photos in the Sphere 19 May 1934.
I think that taken in conjunction with the other images Kongetro found that we can conclude that Queen Mary was wearing the Lovers Knot tiara without the pearl surmounts. The impression that there were uprights on the top line of the tiara has been created by light bouncing off the diamonds which now form the top line of the tiara.
