Until I saw this item in the Daily Telegraph 11 May 1959 I thought that the first time Princess Margaret wore the Poltimore tiara was for the State Visit of the Shah of Iran at the ceremonial night at the opera at Covent Garden.
Can anyone verify this -- that it was worn for the formal state banquet at Buckingham Palace for the Shah?
In former times QEII often appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with her State visitors at the time of a formal State banquet, but on this occasion I cannot find an image to verify if the report in the Daily Telegraph was correct.
Has anyone got additional information?
