The jewel was made less ostentatious and sold in its current form in July 1936. It was repurchased by Cartier in May 1937.
At some stage Lady Warwick was photographed wearing the necklace and possibly the tiara which the firm made from the pendants which were removed. (I am not sure if the tiara worn by Lady Warwick is the tiara in question)
The NPG, UK has an undated photo of Lady Warwick wearing the necklace.
It is possible that Lady Warwick had purchased the necklace in July 1936, but I have never seen any firm evidence to support this.
It is possible that she modeled the jewels for Cartier either in 1937-8 as during that era she seems to have been in need of money and was doing advertisements for Ponds face cream, something she started as early as 1933, and her husband, who had taken a contract with a film studio in the US, announced in December 1936 that he was seeking a divorce, which was granted in February 1938.
Equally, the commencement of divorce proceedings could have prompted her to return the necklace to Cartier in May 1937.
Has anyone ever seen any firm evidence of who owned the jewel between July 1936 and May 1937?
