I wonder if in the article this is the lost necklace? US$20,000 would have been back then around £3750.00 so I'd say that's quite a substantial piece. Gold was $20 an ounce.
I'll lastly add that I'm 100% against any collection of artefacts from the Titanic as it's a grave site. Previous Message
When Molly Brown filed her insurance claim for what she had lost on the Titanic she listed a $20,000 necklace.
I wondered if anyone knows anything more about the necklace or her jewels in general.
I found this picture of her repeatedly but nothing more with any substantial jewellery:

Does anyone know anything about any other jewels that got lost?
At the beginning the women who were first away had to be coerced into life boats as in a lot of cases virtually know one amongst the passengers knew the ship was actually going to sink. They thought the captain was being overly cautious. So I would make the assumption that many left their jewels behind thinking them safer on the ship than in a lifeboat that would be returning to the ship shortly.
Also whilst only a few women from first class drowned they would not have had their jewels get away in a life boat I'd assume.
I know some pieces were found when they briefly collected some artefacts but they were all very small pieces though pearls would have dissolved by then.
