In October 2016 Stuart M of RJWMB found a photo of wedding gifts given to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/1477340943.html which subsequently allowed us to identify a number of jewels where their history had previously been unknown or misidentified. See http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/thread/1477349183.html
Once again, I have to thank Stuart M for this wonderful find.
One such jewel was a diamond bow brooch given to HM by her godmother, Mrs Arthur James.
Prior to this, aficionados had maintained that the brooch was a gift from King George V, probably based on an impression created from a photo in The Times 25 April 1923, even though the lists of wedding gifts did not mention any such gift from the King.
In her later years, the Queen Mother often wore the brooch to hold her poppies at Remembrance day services.
As I find more images of the Queen Mother in the media it is becoming apparent that it was a favourite since she received it in 1923. For whatever reason these photos have not become widely known, and it was assumed that HM wore the brooch only in her later years to services associated with Remembrance day.
At HM's waist
Today the brooch is worn by the Duchess of Cornwall, so hopefully we may get to see it again.
