Therefore I would think that there are a number of now spare QEII family orders.
It does make me feel a bit sorry for Princess Michael of Kent that she has never been granted one. It's a public snub really even though she is at the end of the HRH line up.
I would suspect though that there are only a finite number of family orders and none have been made for decades.
Without knowing who exactly has been granted them over the years a number though due to deaths must have been returned. Those worn by Princess Margaret, Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester and Diana, POW would have been returned in the last twenty years and off the top of my head can only think of the number that have since gone out would be three. The Duchess of Cornwall, the Countess of Wessex and now the Duchess of Cambridge.
This may have all been though very nicely explained to PMK but it will be interesting to see whether the Duchess of Sussex gets granted one in the next few years.
As an after thought I wonder if the Duchess of Kent has returned hers.
I have seen (my) first photographic proof of HRH The Duchess of Cambridge wearing the QEII Family Order at today's state banquet as they walked into the dining room.
Apparently she had received it sometime in (late) 2017 as she is said to have worn it at the 2017 Diplomatic Reception - but there are few, if any, pictures.
