As giving a gift of jewellery to the royal lady launching a ship was commonplace, I was surprised that there was no mention in the press of any such gift to QEQM when the ship was initially launched in 1938. At the time it was the largest liner and the British, the builders and the owners were very proud of their achievement.

I found the same thing when Queen Mary launched the Queen Mary. I wonder if protocol prevented the press from reporting on gifts when a Queen was involved?
