In 1959 the Queen underwent an extensive "Royal tour" of every Canadian province, and the portraits were likely ordered on that occasion.
I have collected a number of these photographs, which include some really touching double-portraits.
It appears that the Queen and the Duke were shot in different outfits (day-wear and formal-wear), both in B&W and in colour.
With her day dress the Queen wore these four strands of beautiful pearls, as she often did in earlier years.
This picture highlights the size of the pearls and the shape of the clasps, unfortunately it is too dark to see them clearly:
