Regards,
Dave.
Another item at the Selfridge's diamond exhibition in 1932 was a diamond necklace which also belonged to Angela Burdett Coutts. According to the press it had belonged to the ill fated Marie Antoinette, and was part of the infamous necklace said to have originally been ordered by Louis XV for Madame du Barry.
The necklace on display.
Two more press reports
The Burdett Coutts necklace does not look as if it might have formed any part of the notorious necklace offered to Marie Antoinette, which as far as I can tell was dismantled and the diamonds sold. And of course that necklace never belonged to the Queen.
Could the Burdett Coutts necklace have belonged to Marie Antoinette?
I cannot say. Perhaps we will know the answer to that question when Vincent Meylan's book on Marie Antoinette is published.
