Geoffrey Munn in Tiaras A History of Splendour page 100 says that it was listed in an inventory of Queen Victoria's jewels made by Garrard in 1896. It is described as "A pearl and diamond tiara composed of 12 Buton and 13 pear shaped Pearls, with diamond chain to form Necklace."
Yet, Queen Victoria recorded receiving the gift from the Aga Khan in her journal on 13 July 1898, describing the gift only as "a most beautiful Tiara in pearls & diamonds which can also be worn as a necklace..."
The source quoted by Munn (and also used by Hugh Roberts) is held by the Royal Collection, but sadly the contents are not available online,

but the frontpiece suggests that the inventory was compiled in January 1896.
There are a number of possibilities which may account for the discrepancy in dates, none of which we could easily verify without access to the inventory.
But unless additions were made to the inventory after it was compiled in January 1896, I think we need to consider the possibility that the Aga Khan gave Queen Victoria a different jewel.
Has anyone ever seen any definitive evidence that the tiara worn by the Duchess of Connaught was the gift of the Aga Khan?
