Thank you for sharing this Dave. I know this fan. It is illustrated in 'unfolding pictures - fans in the royal collection' by Jane Roberts 2005 on pages 136-137. It c1880 ivory brise fan and it was a gift from Princess Chichibu (1909-95) to either Queen Mar or Queen Elizabeth in 1937. This style of fan was typically made in Japan for the export market.
These sort of fans are highly sought after by collectors, but with upcoming ivory ban in the UK in October a lot of good ivory pieces are coming up for sale there at the moment as people try to off-load pieces they won't be able to sell openly later on.
